Ditherer-In-Chief

In your lifetime, has the US ever exercised less global leadership?

The Middle East is burning. Iraq is disintegrating. Afghanistan is collapsing. North Korea is escalating. Iran is cheering.

And all President Bush can do is dither. The Administration has no foreign policy.

FYI - the Middle East includes Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan. They aren't separate regions as your post seems to indicate. I have had my doubts about this President's foreign policy chops since day one and he has had several gaffes. But, it would be a mistake to consider this point in the administration a low point.

We didn't go into Southern Lebanon and hand guns to Hezbollah asking them to kill three Israeli soldiers and kidnap two others. They did that on their own and the Middle East conflict is centuries old and will probably last until the destruction of this big ball of dirt. The divergences amongst Mid-East countries is staggering in many cases and not easily understood by Western society.

Sure, the president has made his share of missteps, but I find your comments untimely and unaware of the gravity of each situation you listed.

In times of crisis in the Middle East, the world often has looked to the United States for leadership. But this time the Bush administration has largely stayed on the sidelines.
